Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion (AVD) is an advanced fire suppression agent designed specifically to combat the growing threat of lithium-ion battery fires. These fires can occur due to overheating, internal failure, or physical damage to the battery, often resulting in thermal runaway—a chain reaction that leads to intense heat and ignition. AVD is applied as a fine mist, using both fixed and portable systems. The water component suppresses flames and cools the surrounding cells, while the vermiculite forms a barrier to isolate fuel sources and prevent re-ignition. Though currently certified for Class A fires, AVD has been tested on lithium battery fires under NTA8133 standards, with results witnessed by Underwriters Labs.

AVD fire extinguishers provide a reliable solution across various environments where lithium-ion batteries are present, including homes, offices, repair centers, and e-mobility charging areas. The agent is non-flammable, eco-friendly, and acts as a firebreak to prevent fire spread. Housed in durable stainless-steel cylinders with brass valves, each unit is helium leak-tested and manufactured under ISO9001 standards. While UL does not yet offer specific lithium battery fire certification (as of Nov 2024), AVD carries UL/ULC listing (File EX29073).
